Increasing interconnectivity, globalization and “commercialisation” of cyber-crime are driving greater frequency and severity of cyber incidents, including data breaches.
Data privacy and protection is one of the key cyber risks and related legislation will toughen globally. More notifications of, and significant fines for, data breaches can be expected in future.
Legislation has already become much tougher in the US, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, while the European Union is looking to agree pan-European data protection rules. Tougher guidelines on a country-by-country basis can be expected.

A lifelong entrepreneur, Greg is a founding partner of the group.
Greg has built several companies including the IT publishing and digital trading company PDI Ltd that provided global funds management, early internet trading and publishing systems for Microsoft and other software companies worldwide over 14 years.
Head of Insurance Services
Hans joined CIS in February 2010. He was previously the president of international operations for Hartford Steam Boiler – the largest equipment insurance company in the world and CEO of both HSB engineering insurance Ltd in the UK and BI&I in Canada.
Hans was also a director of a Lloyd’s Managing Agency
Hans is a professional engineer with an MBA, has a chartered insurance professional designation and is a chartered director with the institute of directors in the UK.

Gerard is responsible for the group’s financial planning and marketing. He and his team were initially responsible for the management system software development, creation of standards and the processes and procedures that define the CIS Data Insurance product world-wide.
Gerard has had a successful international marketing career with his own ventures, corporate company environment with Philips NZ Ltd, Singapore Airlines, DMB&B and is widely experienced in global product roll-outs.

Tom O’Brien conceived the first technical principles behind Data Insurance and has over 25 years’ experience bringing new technology products and services to market. As a co-founder and long-time CEO of CRS temporary housing, the leader in temporary housing services to the insurance industry, he led the company to revenues of $100M while also developing a next generation web portal, ‘myhotelsource.com’, exclusively for the insurance claim industry.
In a previously life he was marketing manager for Memorex responsible for retail distribution and marketing of computer accessories for the flagship brand.
Head of Crimson Risk and Consulting Services
Michael has over 20 years’ experience in management consulting with expertise across a number of sectors and industries previously being a director at Deloitte Australia. Michael is at home and highly skilled in relating to company executives and boards regarding cyber risk, workshop facilitation, design thinking and innovation.
Michael developed the cyber risk consulting framework for CIS and was technical lead on the development of CIS’s cyber risk assessment and analytics toolset.

Chris has led the systems and operations development of the CIS business since 2007. Bringing a background of business operations and systems engineering.
Prior to joining CIS, Chris consulted to energy companies in the United Kingdom providing process and systems development services. He has broad experience of business and systems operations within large multinational organisations at both strategic and implementation levels.

Infrastructure and data standards architect
Ryan is a highly experienced infrastructure architect with a unique set of technical skills gained through 14 years’ experience working for a variety of well-known multinational organisations both in South Africa and abroad.
Ryan has extensive experience working in highly demanding operational environments, first as a senior systems engineer managing global high availability servers and systems for BHP Billiton and his role in CIS.
Ryan has developed expert knowledge in IT risk management and assessment as well as experience with creating the very first underwritten standards for safe data management – Data Insurance, Disaster Recovery strategy and implementation, Datacentre audits and developing sales channels and opportunities.
Head of Data Services
Paul Talbut is an IT industry evangelist specialising in data storage and information management.
Paul has been employed in IT data centres throughout his career having started with National Westminster Bank and Prudential Assurance in London, and then forming his own storage integration business with enterprise customers across the UK.
Paul has lead the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) for over 10 years as both CEO and Exec Director. He was responsible for delivering many keynote speeches on data storage, and has expanded the association business globally.
Paul is a recognised industry leader with extensive networking contacts across the US, Europe, and Asia and was recognised by the industry in receiving the SNIA 2006 outstanding industry contribution award.
Data systems manager
With more than 17 years I.T experience managing infrastructure, consulting and architecting solutions. Billy thrives on resolving complex and challenging solutions.
Prior to joining the company in 2008, he was a support engineer with Attix5, an international provider of secure data protection, recovery and storage. Billy is a specialist in virtualization and cloud-based solutions and is often involved in corporate software and multiple data centre hardware deployments and various disaster recovery simulations for some of largest financial and insurance service providers.
